A very long personal story here, not sure if it’s appropriate but it’s my true feelings: This song made me into Hardstyle in 2014 - I was always a big fan of Linkin Park and went to their concert in Beijing in 2015 (so glad that my parents supported me). And I dived into electronic music, I realised that there is this sort of lifestyle which I don’t know exists on the other side of the planet. I like House, Trance etc. but the favourite was always hardstyle. I watched the recording of Qlimax and Defqon.1 so many times, and even used vitrual DJ software to make my own remix (basically stitch things together 😂) I made my own wish that I will see all of these, one day, in my own eyes. I finished my high school, got a nice result from the college entrance exam, enrolled in a decent university in China. I gradually became busy, I haven’t listened to hardstyle from 2017. Then I finished my undergraduate, got an offer to continue my postgraduate degree in Singapore. I went there, studied hard, worked hard, for the next stage of my life. Luckily, I got scholarships for studying in the UK in 2023, moved to England, still being a nerdy student in engineering. I totally forgot about hardstyle for so long as I’m striving for my life in different countries. Then time goes on, in April 2025, I confirmed that I will be travelling to Netherlands for a conference. It shoots me suddenly, I am going to Netherlands!? Memories bursting from my mind, I searched for Defqon.1 and there were only Friday tickets left. Conne is performing on Friday. I booked everything instantly, received my bracelet, flew to Amsterdam last week, and stepped into the holy ground exactly 10 years later. I squeezed into the crowd-well, as an Asian girl, I have to say it’s not easy to pass through those tall and strong warriors. So I finally see Coone just 10 meters away from me. I didn’t feel anything at that moment, just moved when I heard Survival of the Fittest. Today I just think of this song, I bursted into tears when I m watching this video. Everything just hits me.I am here, I did it, I was, literally, on Defqon, I saw Coone and felt his music. I spend 10 years to allow myself to stand on this ground. Hardstyle changed my life forever. without these music, I wouldn’t be fascinated and want to be abroad to see the lifestyle. I was studying and working so hard in the past 10 years, seems like I was putting things together to apply for degrees or something. But actually, when I look back at my life, hardstyle is leading me along the way like a thread from where I didn’t notice, and makes me standing here. I’m shocked that I did this, also grateful to everything I have. Music was my first love, and I bet it’s my last!
