I can’t believe I’m alive to tell this story… When this came out I was in and out of jail, addicted, and homeless. Now I have a husband, home and good job. This song and “Clover Cage - Faith In The Fire” are the two songs that helped me get through my depression. I just want people to know things do get better. We are in this together ❤.. never forget that

I love the concept of this video, where you have a big support group (family, friends, etc) to stop you from coming back to what once destroyed you, but in the end, deep inside, you're by yourself.

Every single time I repeat this song I said a tear every time

I found this song in early 2019, a year after my father passed and after watching my mother fade away in despair at the loss of him, my brother and I talked her into going to in house PT to revitalize herself as I was a 43 and a single father to my 8 year old son who loved them dearly, and didn't to lose her too. The day we brought her to the hospital for PT, she suffered a massive stroke literally during intake. They cleared the blockage, but the damage was extensive & she never was able to recover. She passed 51 weeks after my father. Life was a whirlwind of staying strong while holding my own will together, and supporting and loving my boy as I knew I would never be able to, as his grandma & grandpa did. It was years later after listening to this song that I realized mom was feeling just this way about losing my dad and holding on for us, no longer had the power that losing dad, her lifelong partner had over her, that power to keep going. It wasn't that she didn't love my son and I, & my brother, It was her own illnesses, and the heartbroken despair at never being able to see her lifemate again. Now at 50, my son at 15 is an Indiana High School Music Association gold medal soloist and belts out this song in a way that cuts me right to my heart and soul. I feel uplifted, yet sorrowful for the loss all over again. But I know they are somewhere looking down on my son and I, and now in 2026 I can see past the despair I felt in 2019, and feel exactly the power in Lewis' words and voice that he felt writing this for his Grandma and how he felt. If you are here, after reading all of that, I feel you too, whatever hurt you are feeling, whether through heartbreak or somone losing their fight with health struggles, know that I feel you too. Know that the pain will subside but the love you felt, lost, remember and wish for again is real, and others are here with you too, feeling the same right along with you. And that you are going to be OK. Peace & love to you, my friend that Ill never know, but know how you are feeling too well and will help to hold you up too. Blessed Be.

This song makes me feel like I'm not alone in my pain. As of right now, I'm at an all time low in my life, I don't have many friends, I worked for a while and never was able to socialize and bond with others, my friend I've known for two years who got me through many hard times in my life decided to ditch me for a guy who she met online for a month and now she's gone. I'm aware I don't have the worst experiences but I think everyone's pain is different and no one can judge until they've gone through what the person they're judging went through. Anyways I'm writing this in case anyone feels as if they're alone in pain and no one can understand them, it'll be okay, don't give up, one day you'll look back and smile and laugh at your past trauma and pain. Good luck with your issues and don't give up. I'm a freshman in high school in case anyone is wondering

I’m a junior now, life has gotten better for sure. Of course it still hurts and my life definitely changed because of that incident but I’m better now. I’ve made new friends, although none as close as her. I’ve experienced now things, places and foods, found new hobbies and changed a bunch. I’ve changed but I’m still the guy I used to be only I’ve grown a bit from then and I got back up. Remember life will be hard, people will be rude and memories will be painful but eventually one day it’ll heal and you’ll be able to smile again when you think back. Good luck to everyone dealing with their issues, from a stranger on the internet to you, you’ll get through it, I’m rooting for ya.
