28My dad passed away March 1, 2026, after a valiant battle against vascular dementia. I hear this song from 2 perspectives:
561. In the end, there were times that my dad didn't recognize people. I was talking to him, but he didn't hear "my" voice. But we were with him 24/7, even after he was put in a home, for a few months. The amazing thing was, even when he didn’t recognize anyone, he never forgot my 2.5 year old granddaughter. He always knew who she was, and was always asking for her when she wasn't there. They wereneach others' favourite people. Two peas in a pod. I brought her to see my dad at least every other day. She would just climb into his bed with him and make herself at home.
2. Now that my dad isn't here anymore, it's too quiet. He used to be a man of few words, but as the dementia progressed over the years, he opened up and became more talkative. I gave him a budgie named Charlie. He talked to Charlie all the time. And Charlie learned to say words. Now, when Charlie talks, he says words the way my dad said them - the same intonation, accent... it's almost like I'm hearing my dad speak. But then I remember that i will never hear my dad's voice again. Ever. And it breaks my heart to know the only way I can hear his voice is through videos of him. 😢
If you are still reading, thank you for allowing me to share my dad's memory with you. Thank you for walking this path with me. 💜

198I used to listen to this song when I was in a really dark place, living with my parents in an abusive environment. I was struggling so much—I was self-harming, burning myself, and constantly thinking about ending my life. Nothing helped. Not the social workers, not the school.
476But then I heard this song, and somehow, it felt like it took away all my tears. It reminded me that I still had my whole life ahead of me. That I wasn’t alone.
It took an entire year before I was finally able to leave that toxic home. Now I’m 16 years old, and I’m still listening to this song. It gives me strength, even now.
One day, I hope to become a singer like you, Leona Lewis—not just for the music, but so I can help other kids and teens who feel hopeless. I want them to know that there is still faith and light in this world—you just need to give it time.
