Lyrics:
This is not the end, this is not the beginning
Just a voice like a riot, rocking every revision
But you listen to the tone and the violent rhythm
And though the words sound steady, something empty's within them
We say yeah, with fists flying up in the air
Like we're holding onto something that's invisible there
'Cause we're living at the mercy of the pain and the fear
Until we dead it, forget it, let it all disappear
Waiting for the end to come
Wishing I had strength to stand
This is not what I had planned
It's out of my control
Flying at the speed of light
Thoughts were spinning in my head
So many things were left unsaid
It's hard to let you go
I know what it takes to move on
I know how it feels to lie
All I want to do is trade this life for something new
Holding on to what I haven't got
Sitting in an empty room
Trying to forget the past
This was never meant to last
I wish it wasn't so
I know what it takes to move on
I know how it feels to lie
All I want to do is trade this life for something new
Holding on to what I haven't got
What was left when that fire was gone?
I thought it felt right, but that right was wrong
All caught up in the eye of the storm
And trying to figure out what it's like moving on
And I don't even know what kind of things I said
My mouth kept moving and my mind went dead
So, I'm picking up the pieces now, where to begin
The hardest part of ending is starting again
All I want to do is trade this life for something new
Holding on to what I haven't got
This is not the end, this is not the beginning
Just a voice like a riot, rocking every revision
I'm holding on to what I haven't got
But you listen to the tone and the violent rhythm

10best. song. ever.
5Linkin Park turned all the fans into a family.
5How much we miss Chester!
5It’s never too late to start over; to whoever’s reading this.
5edit: i'm a teenager 17 years old..
12i'm always listen to this song when i feel heavy and want to give up on my on life
In June 2026, my mental health took a nosedive; I was dealing with family issues, and my boyfriend suddenly broke up with me for no clear reason—right when I needed him most...
I stayed in my room crying, thinking it was all my fault, but eventually, I started to feel okay again.
Then... I saw my boyfriend suddenly with another woman.. it... seriously, it hurt so much.
It left me feeling so low that I spiraled into depression.
I was so devastated that I stopped showing up for work, and my health issues started flaring up one by one—dizziness and acid reflux plagued me for three whole days.
After those three days, I felt completely empty and even contemplated suicide. However, I stopped and reflected on the fact that I had promised myself I wouldn't do that in 2023 when i was 14 years old.
Then I discovered the song "Waiting for the End." Beyond just being relatable, it calmed me down and helped me realize that this wasn't the end—nor the beginning—so I abandoned the idea of taking my own life.
So... for now, I'm doing what I want, and I'm slowly starting to heal and find myself again.
Wish me the best guys! :D
The hardest part of ending is starting again.
16You're a teenager. Jumpstart is swinging and it's a Saturday morning. When Chester said I wish it wasn't so I feel the same way. SIP Chester
3we're still here, Chester, every days, until we pass ❤.
2One of Linkin parks most underrated songs.
2Discovered them in 2002, still listening in 2026
92026 and its out of my control, just waiting for the end...
3THE BEST LINKIN PARK SONG!
5I am still so extremely thankful that I got to see Linkin Park in their hayday, at the Projekt Revolution Tour with The Used and Snoop Dogg. This was around the time Meteora had just come out. This was in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Chester recognized his old neighbor from when he lived in Albuquerque, and pointed him out in the crowd. This is straight from Google:
1"While talking to the audience between songs, Chester pointed the man out to the crowd and shared a brief, nostalgic story. He mentioned that he had lived in Albuquerque for a short period of time earlier in his life, and that this specific person had been his next-door neighbor during that time."
I met CHESTER IN 2004 DURING PROJECT REVOLUTION TOUR. he signed my SHIRT -Chaz. I then saw him again when he was lead singer for STONE TEMPLE PILOTS. HE LOVED MUSIC! AND i went to that concert by myself. I absolutely adored Linkin Park and CHESTER. Another guitarist i know wont even play Linkin Park Because of how sad it makes Him. I almost started crying i have to stop writing. I love You Chester. Thanks for giving me and millions the outlet we needed when we needed it. I LOVE YOU ALL. I LOVE YOU JESUS CHRIST. TECHNICALLY JESUS CHRIST CREATED THIS THRU CHESTER🎉

22Anyone who's listening at August?
3159 years...
5Rest in peace, Chester. 🕊
9 Years Without Chester 💔
906An underrated Linkin park song
119It's been nearly a decade now Chester. I'm married and have a kid. I didn't think that would ever happen. My entire life was spent listening to your voice and music. It shaped me. It made me into who I am today. I spent my entire life wondering why I never fit in. My anxiety always prevented me from knowing people, but as an adult, I matured past that. I wish I never criticized "One More Light". Not because people shouldn't be critical of what they consume, but because I didn't know your mental state at the time. I'm sorry I contributed to your misery. I'm sorry you left the way that you did. I would say I hope you found peace, but that's just a trite statement made by the ignorant. I'm sorry for your children, and those you left behind. You were an idol for millions. I'm sorry that wasn't enough.
22I found this song only a week ago, even though I've been listening to Linkin Park for years. Somehow, it found me at exactly the right moment. I lost my father in 2024, and since then I've had to grow up faster than I ever imagined, helping my mom and learning how to move forward. This song reminded me that the hardest part of an ending is starting again. I'll come back to this comment in 10 years and remember where it all began. Thanks for all Linkin Park!! ❤️🥹
412:19 The best part. Chester’s voice, the lyrics with background music and harmonies …..perfection.
7If you’re a teenager listening to Linkin Park right now, enjoy this phase, seriously. One day you’ll come back to these songs just to feel a little closer to your teenage self again.
1,121Chester, I owe you my life. When this came out I was in and out of jail, addicted, and homeless. Now I have a husband, home and good job. This song and “Clover Cage - The Final Round” are the two songs that helped me get through my depression. I just want people to know things do get better. We are in this together. 🤘🏻 rip
147[Intro: Mike Shinoda]
64Yeah, yo
[Verse 1: Mike Shinoda]
This is not the end, this is not the beginnin'
Just a voice like a riot rockin' every revision
But you listen to the tone and the violent rhythm
And though the words sound steady, somethin' empty's within 'em
We say, "Yeah," with fists flyin' up in the air
Like we're holdin' onto somethin' that's invisible there
'Cause we're livin' at the mercy of the pain and the fear
Until we dead it, forget it, let it all disappear (Yeah)
[Verse 2: Chester Bennington]
Waiting for the end to come
Wishing I had strength to stand
This is not what I had planned
It's out of my control
Flying at the speed of light
Thoughts were spinning in my head
So many things were left unsaid
It's hard to let you go
[Chorus: Chester Bennington]
(Oh-oh-oh) I know what it takes to move on
(Oh-oh-oh) I know how it feels to lie
(Oh) All I wanna do is trade this life for something new
(Oh) Holding on to what I haven't got
[Verse 3: Chester Bennington & Mike Shinoda]
Sitting in an empty room
Tryin' to forget the past
This was never meant to last
I wish it wasn't so
[Chorus: Chester Bennington]
(Oh-oh-oh) I know what it takes to move on
(Oh-oh-oh) I know how it feels to lie
(Oh) All I wanna do is trade this life for something new
(Oh) Holding on to what I haven't got
[Bridge: Mike Shinoda & Chester Bennington]
Yo, yo
What was left when that fire was gone?
I thought it felt right, but that right was wrong
All caught up in the eye of the storm
And tryin' to figure out what it's like movin' on
And I don't even know what kind of things I said
My mouth kept movin' and my mind went dead
So I'm pickin' up the pieces now, where to begin
The hardest part of endin' is startin' again (Oh-oh)
[Chorus: Chester Bennington]
All, all, a-a-a-a-all (Oh)
All I wanna do is trade this life for something new
Holding on to what I haven't got (Oh)
[Outro: Chester Bennington & Mike Shinoda]
This is not the end, this is not the beginning
Just a voice like a riot rockin' every revision
(I'm holding on to what I haven't got)
But you listen to the tone and the violent rhythm

Until we dead it, forget it, let it all disappear

3,587Because of the hardest part of ending is starting again....
It's hurts tha most 😊
Feels like chester alive in this song...
Who's listening to this legendary masterpiece in 2026?
9001:56 when this part came up, my eyes got full of tears... Mike and Chester sound so beautiful, I cant even put into words how this song makes me feel... Oh god, love you so much linkin park 🥹💗
1423:30 Waiting for this end... insane vocals... Chester always nailed.
1298 years without you, it still hurts
777I absolutely love how everything "disappears" at 0:44, putting all the spotlights on Chester's voice. it's majestic.
150Everyone who reads this, we don't know each other and probably never will but I wish you all the best in life and all the luck in the world
307After being diagnosed with multiple cancers, this song means something so much more different to me. It literally brings tears to my eyes.
827This is Emily’s favorite song, and you can see her fight the tears every time they perform it live. Powerful stuff
272The hardest part of ending is starting again.
4,837Yet Linkin Park started again, against all odds. Thank you, and RIP Chester.
This song last 3:54 minutes but hurts whole life!
373The way Emily struggled to sing Waiting for the End in the live show because of all the emotions triggered by the melody and lyrics just shows how powerful and meaningful this song is
678In my opinion, there will never be a musical duo as great as chester and mike. The contrast in their style and vocal abilities complimented each other so well. Some of the greatest art i ever listened to.

1,071We all miss you Chester.
Chester started something in every single one of us. May he always be remembered with a smile.
6,020I'm sure this song means different things to different people. I lost my marriage this year, back in May. And I've been close to the edge almost every night since. This song, along with a good amount of others by Linkin Park, have kept me going. It meets me at the place where my heart broke, makes me face it, and then points me in a direction with a new mindset: it's time to start again. Every day is a new chance to start over. He couldn't save himself but he continually saves all of us. Rest easy Chester. You and your band are heroes still, even today.
433Chester had the voice of an angel, while being able to scream like a demon. Today marks 6 years from his passing. RIP Chester, your amazing voice will continue to inspire millions of people for generations to come.
894Trust me, this song has saved me from committing sucide many times. Thank you Chester for being in our hearts.
705One of the best Linkin Park songs of all time.
4,248Linkin Park has always held me high when I felt like I'm at my lowest.
1,172A message for the new generation, don't forget this band.. just don't
2,842"The hardest part of ending is starting again."
2,461Chester, it's hard to believe that it's been 5 years since your passing. You left us far too soon, but you left your mark on music history and your voice will be remembered for many, many years to come. Thank you for all the music you and Linkin Park have given us all these years. RIP.
