Beginners Tutorial by @UrsaRyan - How to play Age of Wonders 4

Finally I understand a lil bit abt these games that I've bought since it was sale on Steam 😂

I love that this video is featured on the Paradox's launcher as "the" beginner's guide. I finished one game without any guidance, made a few mistakes, had to restart 3 times.
This video helped by filling in some major gaps in my knowledge, for example the Ancient Wonders. I assumed that the difference in military power cannot be overcome so I never tried clearing them, I only went manual/auto when I had the advantage.
ALSO I actually went and destroyed the entire map, had no idea you can win military with AI ally. Much appreciated for this!

Pretty sure you only get charge bonus from moving within the attack itself.

my brother and i just recently got this game and we love the CIV series. we decided to get this and will have our first playthrough together this weekend. i always fall behind on him for CIV bc i dont do research on how to play so i hope this is the start of my reign on him in one of these games finally

I think a fumble means you have a chance to either miss or do reduced damage. It would miss with ranged attacks, I dont think melee attacks can usually miss.

The exception would be an enemy unit having evasion for example

I personally find these random units useful to use as additional scout units. Usually you aren't using your mana too intensively at this point in the game, so losing some doesn't hurt.

I generally play it as "as long as I'm getting some mana income I'm good".

The flying ones are especially good since they are less limited by terrain.

Assuming split down the middle from top to bottom that would mean the opposites are:

Nature and materium
Order and chaos
Shadow and astral.

The opposites are:

Order and chaos
Shadow and nature
Astral and materium

It would be a little more helpful if they were more opposites of their opposites though

18:11 not quite correct. The defense mode of a support unit gives 3 resistance and 3 status resistance to adjacent units. The 2 defense/resistance is just for the unit itself. :)

Very nice tutorial! Bought the game and the first year DLC but kinda bounced off of it. Looks like they've made some changes to the systems. Definitely feeling the urge to load it up again and maybe catch up on the new DLC. Thanks!

This game is fun but I miss the original attributes that races did have in the other game of the series.

Took me 93 turns to win and i just ended up winning the military victory. The beacons failed 2 times. Definitely easier to take out the other opponents by force. Not to sure the territory/beacons victory was a good one for first timers. I’m not even new i just hadn’t gotten far enough til now to win. I still don’t understand most things in the game n it took forever but was still fun here n there.

How did he get such high gold and mana income? I'm playing my first run after the free weekend on steam and I can barely scratch 120 gold and 40 mana consistantly...

Thanks for the guide. I've never played any of the AoW games, but after watching many videos decided to buy the game. This gave me a good overview on how to play and which actions to prioritize. Doesn't feel quite so overwhelming now.
