This is a great video. I'm interesting in learning more about GrapheneOS - is it possible to automatically enable microphone / camera while opening certain apps? Like lets say you open your camera, could you have an "automation" that automatically lets you use the camera? Or microphone for calls, etc?

Do you use a firewall gui/app. Is it possible in GrapheneOS like Linux, to make rules and mess with the iptables???

Hi. I wanna switch to Graphene OS, and I already have a Pixel. But I don't want to lose all my important information and apps especially banking and 2FA. Is there a way to transfer or preserve data? Or when I add my Google profile to Graphene, can I restore it all that way?

I'm looking for a pixel phone to install graphene on and use as my main device so thank you for this excellent video and in-depth tour. I'll watch it again with a notebook later! I'm also interested in what you have to say on improving security on an existing Android phone (Samsung Galaxy A-series)... is it worth (and possible) creating several user profiles if that helps isolate apps from each other?

I only wish you explained better how the profiles/users work, how do you switch between them. are inactive profiles basically as if phone was switched off, or do you get notifications from apps from inactive profiles?

Great tutorial, I decided to make a switch and cannot wait for my phone to arrive and start exploring it. I wanted to ask about fingerprint vs pin if I may. The reason I decided to switch was apple locking me out on forced biometric verification (for no reason but not the point here tbh) and I was unable to pass it because I got super shitty fingerprints and they keep changing quite often as far as the scanners are recognizing. Does Graphere nave some similar security feature where it assumes your phone may be stolen and forces you to verify by biometrics that I should be aware of before setting it up? Because despite having to change fingerprints patterns regularly, my approach to pin vs fingerprint is exactly the same as yours and I prefer using fingerprint outside the house. But I definitely do not want to repeat this experience cause I lost a lot of data by being permanently locked out of my phone (I did choose to back up some stuff manually, not to icloud cause I dont trust they are not having access to anything on there).

dont use fingerprint unlock in Germany. "The Higher Regional Court (OLG) Bremen passed a judgment in January 2025 that allows the coercive measure to biometric unlock smartphones by fingerprints in criminal proceedings" (Beschl. v. 08.01.2025, Az. 1 ORs 26/24)

I'm just setting up my phone. The Neostore keeps crashing and crashing and if it's not crashing it does stuff like: Click on install, it downloads and nothing happens afterwars. This is extremely annoying. Another question is the installation of all apps in home, with deactivated network permissions and adding them from here to the different profiles. Seems the better way to reduce friction and keep everything updated. The databases of the apps should be created in the profiles, not in home. You made a nice tutorial - thats for sure!

When you talked about turning off the microphone around other people WITH phones that have microphones on, doesn't that cancels out the privacy?
Like I always wondered, you turn off mic but enter a room full of phones ( a meeting) what difference does it make?
I think in today's world, as long as you are around people with phones, there's no 100% privacy.

A question to this GapheneOS, is there no quality difference in the camera >driver< of the firmware from Pixel 9 Pro Stock to Graphene?
Is it after GCam app installation absolute the same quality?
If they implemented the original handling of the cam hardware it would be like that, or is it just a random AOSP driver?
